He graduated from Hongik University College of Fine Arts and completed a research program at Fukuoka Institute of Technology (Japan). He graduated from the Hongik University Graduate School and the Daegu Catholic University Graduate School (where he earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy, Aesthetics). He served as a Professor in the Department of Design at Pukyong National University and as a Professor at the University of South Australia. He is the recipient of the Busan Metropolitan City Culture Award, the Bongsaeng Culture Award (Bongsaeng Cultural Foundation), the Republic of Korea Design Service Grand Prize (Korea Designers Association), the Republic of Korea Artist Award (Korean Fine Arts Association), and the Siwon Art Criticism Grand Prize (Siwon Literature Co.). He received the Figure for Shining Pukyong National University (100th Anniversary of Founding) Award and has received and been decorated with the Hwangjo Geunjeong Medal (Yellow Stripes Order of Service Merit) of the Republic of Korea, among other honors.
